I completed all the necessary paperwork for unemployment compensation and by all accounts everything appeared to be just fine. I noticed that UC did a test transaction on my bank account to ensure that direct deposit was accurate, so I expected my first payment in a day or two. Two days later, and there's nothing in the account. I called the phone number and they only answer calls on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (This of course was Friday). I called on Monday and after sitting on hold for over an hour, was told that there was an error in the paperwork which was corrected and the payments were reinstated. I asked specifically "How long then until I see the direct deposit in my account?" I was told "You should see it within 48 business hours". Knowing it was Monday... I decided to give it until Thursday when I could ring them back again. Thursday, there is still no money in my account so I called. I am told that the payment has not been released yet; we also do not know when the payment will be released as it is an automatic system that does this. So... now it is Monday (approximately 3 weeks since I initially filed my first claim) and I still do not have payment and no one can tell me if or when I will receive payment. However, they are keen to know what I am doing to find work -- well, not very damn much when I've got no money to travel to job interviews!

I called to ask them an important question but I can never get through! What do you do if you have a question? The website is no help! It's hard to understand and they don't answer all your questions on the UC website!!!

This a friendly warning. I lost my job in February and was placed on unemployment. I received two payments from unemployment and nothing else. It turns out I made a minor mistake with my PA Career Link profile, so I had my money withheld. I corrected the issue and tried to get a hold of unemployment. After many busy signals, days of calling and being on hold for hours, I finally reached a very nice woman. At least...she seemed nice. She told me I would resume getting compensation as I corrected my mistake. She told me I could even appeal my other weeks of compensation to get the money I did not receive. I was so relieved! So, I filed my biweekly claim as normal and lo and behold - I didn't get compensation. I will continue to try to get a hold of them, but for a government service this is a little ridiculous. I received misinformation and I rely on that money to pay my rent. If you need to go on unemployment, please be sure to go through everything with a fine toothed comb. Do not end up getting slighted by the system for something minor. The worst part is there is no one/nothing to help you figure out how to correct these issues. What steps do you take? How do you fix this specific situation? They refer you to the website, but that also is an endless loop of frustration. In the end, I hope this works out. But, I wanted to make others aware so they can avoid dealing with this.

  • The line is busy a lot of the time but if you keep calling back to back to back you should get through around the 15-20th time. They just recently laid a lot of people off so expect a hold time, but that's because at least in my experience they make sure that you are taken care of before getting off the phone and the sheer number of people calling in. The gentleman I talked to was very kind, helpful, and efficient in walking me through my problem. In all unemployment has been a very frustrating experience, but I do not blame the staff or even the Lancaster office itself, as the website is so bad in giving any useful information or telling you what is going on with the claim that talking to someone in person is an absolute necessity just to know what's happening, thus they get slammed every day with calls. Make it so your site keeps us updated on what's the hold up on the claim or bi weekly so we don't have to tie up your workers. I guarantee a stiff drop off of avoidable calls which will make the phones more stream lined.
